Farm level story
Finca Juan Martin, owned and operated by Banexport, is an innovative and experimental coffee farm dedicated to advancing coffee cultivation, harvesting, and processing techniques. The primary mission of this project is to develop tailored practices for each coffee variety, ensuring optimal quality at every stage. More than just a farm, Juan Martin serves as a model and resource for coffee producers who collaborate with Banexport, offering guidance and inspiration for quality-driven coffee production.
Nestled in the highest region of Sotará, just 30 minutes from Popayán, the capital of Cauca, Finca Juan Martin is committed to environmentally responsible farming and community development. The farm not only prioritizes sustainable agricultural practices but also creates local employment opportunities and supports educational initiatives for community members.
To maintain the health and productivity of the farm, a range of essential practices are carried out. Given the steep terrain, soil conservation is a top priority. Natural undergrowth is allowed to flourish to prevent erosion, while regular crop evaluations help detect and manage pests or diseases. Every 75 days, the coffee trees are meticulously cleaned, and the spaces between rows are cleared with a scythe every two months to maintain proper field conditions.
At Finca Juan Martin, coffee is cultivated, harvested, and processed with the utmost care, following strict quality standards that adapt to ambient conditions and the specific needs of each variety. Factors such as Brix levels, moisture content, and desired cup profiles guide every step of the process, ensuring coffees of exceptional quality and character.
